Alex Vorti, born 1991 in Majdanpek, Serbia, graduated in sculpture from the University of Applied Sciences in Belgrade. In addition to his artistic work, he teaches art and the English language. Experts on visual arts have commended him in the same breath with outstanding pioneers of Tachism such as Arnulf Rainer and Hans Staudacher. There are good reasons to compare world-famous artists of that genre with Alex Vorti who brought a breath of fresh air into the world of abstract painting and greatly inspired the both aesthetic and spiritual way of spontaneous and in a sense aleatoric work with colours and forms.
His promising oeuvre also brings neuro-aesthetics into play and sheds new light on the idea of creative work beyond the shackles of cognition. From a neuroscientific perspective, his art goes hand in hand with the inventive power of the so called default mode network, an immensely powerful information processor of the human brain.
Having provoked sharp criticism in the 1960s, today ‘le Tachisme’ seems to gain momentum: Vorti’s approach is not only of high artistic value but also substantiates psychoanalytic and neuropsychological theories of arts: His abstract compositions are not only symphonies consisting of fast and slow movements but also give rise to a mystical and most unique ‘inner sound’.
In Vorti’s art, mixed techniques use graphite, ink, acryl and oil, and long lines together with carefully woven, thin, gentle and short elements bring about a matchless inner energy. No matter whether monochrome or coloured, the typical shapes in his art are brimming with suggestive power.
The dynamic narrative in his inimitable style evokes a sacred feeling and his subtle symbolism allows to speak of lyrical abstraction.
His oeuvre includes ‘Adumbratio’, two cycles of pictures. Literally meaning ‘hint, sign, overshadow, predict’, these visual representations are designed to transmit energy to the viewer, a new genre of abstract portrait art captivates our minds.
Since the first outburst of his creative power, Vorti’s artwork has made its way. He reached out to the international markets and already aroused interest beyond European borders to New York. A great career is rising over the horizon of the world of arts.
